Small Moments, Big Impact
Most people are familiar with the saying, "Go big or go home." Popular wisdom dictates that what's flashy and what makes the biggest bang is the way to make a difference and that people who seem to “have it all” is the ideal. The same kind of thinking can also easily permeate the church, the people of God. But should it?
While it is true that Jesus performed many great miracles and taught great crowds, Jesus also chose to heal and teach seemingly insignificant people in situations where he often asked people not to tell others what he had done. In these seemingly small moments, Jesus was also fulfilling his calling. Jesus saw people differently, using value markers that often didn’t make sense to people at the time. In these small moments, the seeds of the kingdom of God were planted and, as Jesus taught, would one day grow into a magnificent tree where birds can perch in its branches. In these perhaps lesser focused stories, we can see clearly the heart of Jesus' upside down kingdom where the least will be the greatest and where the last will be first.
