ECC has partnered with Journey Home Community to bring the love of Jesus to refugee claimants (asylum seekers) who settle in Richmond.
Our partnership includes helping provide temporary and/or permanent housing and a healthy integration into Canadian life and culture.
Often refugee claimants follow complicated resettlement pathways and have to find their own way through complex government systems to obtain basic resources, permission to work, and protection in Canada. We are trying to help eliminate this complication.
How can I get involved?
- Hang out at Dockside Village where there are a lot of new comers – Aisyah will be at Dockside once a week to have tea and just hang out. Come and be a part of it.
- Help with community meals beginning in 2020 – Aisyah will be setting up regular meals with newcomers
- See needs list below ↓
- Consider how to help practically: taking someone to an appointment, helping them get ready for an interview, etc.
- If you’ve gotten to know a newcomer, consider how to just “do life” with that person or with that family. No need to have one more thing to do, but consider including them in what you are already doing (e.g. meals, walks, grocery store, going to the library, voting, etc.).
- Become an English conversation partner
