Journey Home Community

Journey Home Community supports refugee claimant families who are vulnerable to poverty, homelessness and isolation. Find out more ABOUT JOURNEY HOME COMMUNITY.
UPDATE - SEPT 2021
#1 Prayer for Refugees:
- Crisis in Afghanistan – we are working with more than 20 families who are experiencing separation, a spouse and/or children who are in Afghanistan. There is much fear for their safety and wellbeing with the Taliban sweeping to power. Pray for peace and safety. Pray for Journey Home as we support these households in their attempts to reunite with family.
- Pandemic Effect – Closed borders, vaccine passports, and travel restrictions have severely limited people’s ability to travel the globe in search of safety. This is happening at a time when the number of people displaced and in refugee situations is rising. Pray for the end of the pandemic. Pray for refugee travel to be permitted. Pray for compassion for vulnerable persons.
- Pray for our ministry as we are seeking ways to expand our housing ministry. We are actively looking for property, in particular a large multi-bedroom home or a multi-family dwelling (i.e. duplex or triplex) which could be used to welcome and care for refugees. Maybe someone in your community has a property like this; or maybe someone knows someone who works with real estate and properties. Please spread the news and pray with us for God’s provision.
#2 Journey Home Community is Hiring

#3 Ride for Refuge 2021 - October 2
The Ride for Refuge is a family friendly fundraiser to support the ministry of Journey Home Community. It is a great way for small groups and individuals in your church to make a difference. It is a simple peer-to-peer fundraiser and funds raised will support our work to assist families and individuals with housing, settlement support, and community connections.

#4 Fall Volunteering Opportunities
With vaccinations and the gradual opening up of normal living (fingers crossed and prayers uttered!), we are happy to say that we are once again offering volunteering opportunities at Journey Home Community. Can you share with your community that if refugee ministry is of interest that there are a number of ways to be involved this fall:
- Community Dinner Cooking:
The weekly community dinner is the cornerstone of our community building and inclusion efforts where we see people experience a sense of family and belonging.
We are looking for 2-3 church groups who can commit to one Tuesday evening each month and volunteer our community dinner cooks (minimum six-month commitment). We subsidize the cost of food and ask for simple meals. It isn’t fancy, but giving a gift of food allows our community to gather around the table and form supportive relationships with one another. Often, meaningful life conversations happen at community dinner including spiritual questions and the opportunity to pray together.
Note: Volunteer Screening is Required for this role.
- Fall Work Day:
We are seeking volunteers to join us in a work day to help us clean up and maintain our community house property and our office space. Tasks include gardening, outdoor clean up, and painting. This is a practical and fun way to be involved.
For information about these roles, email vanessa@journeyhomecommunity.
